Diane Nash

In recognition of her lifelong work in the pursuit of justice for the black community, Diane Nash received the Presidential Medal of Freedom this month from President Biden. If you've read the March Trilogy by Representative John Lewis, another Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, you are already familiar with her commitment and work within the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. Her accomplishments within the movement are astounding, but what is so vital to the work we are doing, and which we hope will inspire you, is the way she viewed the nonviolent movement and was able to change minds with direct action that challenged individuals biased understandings. To quote Ms. Nash "When you regard your opponent as a human being instead of somebody to fight, you can really work out problems."
