Why I joined ARCC?
Our family has a history of racism and bigotry bringing violence into it. My father was called names and chased through the streets. When he married my grandparents worried about what his "mixed" kids would be like. His family is from the middle east, and my brother and I can "pass" without much trouble. Instead of talking and processnig these stories, instead of being a family who was taught to stand up against hate, we were taught to pass. To keep quiet. To assimilate at all costs. I hated it. These days my personal pledge is to do better. To help others do better. To create the world we want instead of accepting the world we have.
